Using the AI Notetaker in interviews
Last updated: November 4, 2026
Once the AI Notetaker is turned on for an interview, it joins the call, records and transcribes it, and generates a summary you can review afterward — and use to fill out your scorecard faster. This article covers using it on a specific interview; for account-wide setup (naming the notetaker, making it mandatory, building summary templates), see "AI Notetaker."
Who can do this: Anyone who can schedule or access the interview — turning the notetaker on or off, viewing its output, and using it to fill a scorecard all follow the same access you already have to that interview.
Where to find it: The Enable AI notetaker toggle appears on the Details step when scheduling or editing an interview. After the interview, its output lives on the interview's Notes, Summary, and Recording tabs.
Turning it on for an interview
When scheduling or editing an interview, look for Enable AI notetaker on the Details step.
It only appears for Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams interviews — not phone, onsite, or HackerRank interviews.
If your admin has made it mandatory for this job or stage, the toggle shows locked on, with a small lock icon — hovering it explains it's required. You can't turn it off.
Once it's on, a Summary template picker appears underneath it. By default this follows your account's default template; pick a different one here if this specific interview's notes should follow a different structure.
What happens during the call
The notetaker joins as a participant and begins recording once it's admitted. It announces itself in the meeting chat, and — on Google Meet and Teams — with a short spoken notice too, so candidates know they're being recorded. See "AI Notetaker" for the exact disclosure wording and platform differences.
Reviewing the output afterward
Once the interview finishes and the recording finishes processing, open the interview and look at these tabs:
Summary — the AI-generated notes, organized by topic or question. Use the Summary template dropdown at the top to view the same interview's notes under a different template, not just whichever one was selected at scheduling time. Click a citation in the summary to jump straight to that moment in the Recording tab. Copy to clipboard copies the summary text.
Recording — the video and transcript, synced together.
Notes — your own manual notes on the interview, separate from the AI-generated Summary.
Using it to fill your scorecard
On the scorecard, look for Use AI to fill out your scorecard. It drafts your scorecard answers from the interview transcript — you can edit anything it fills in before submitting. This only appears once the transcript has finished processing, and only if your admin has allowed AI scorecard assistance for this account and this interview.
Good to know
The notetaker only works on video platforms Kula can join directly — Zoom, Google Meet, and Teams. It has nothing to join on a phone or onsite interview.
If an interview shows no recording, the notetaker badge tells you why on hover — most of the time it's simply that nobody joined the meeting, not a real failure. See "AI Notetaker" for the full list of reasons.
Switching which summary template you're viewing doesn't change what happened at the interview — it re-renders the same transcript under a different template's instructions, so you can compare formats after the fact without having needed to pick the right one in advance.
AI-filled scorecard answers are a draft, not a final submission. Nothing is submitted until you review and submit the scorecard yourself.
