Closing a requisition
Last updated: August 10, 2026
Stop actively working a requisition without filling it — for example, if the role is no longer needed or hiring is paused.
Who can do this: Requires the "Create and manage requisitions" or "Manage all requisitions" permission (Admins and Super Admins have this by default).
Where to find it: Requisitions → open the requisition, or use the row/card menu in List or Grid view → Close.
When you can close a requisition
Close is available from Open, Approved, Ready to Open, Pending Approval, and Not Approved (rejected) states. It's not available if the requisition is currently tied to an active offer — see Good to know.
Closing a requisition
Go to Requisitions and locate the requisition.
Open its action menu (or the requisition record itself) and select Close.
Confirm the action.
The requisition's status updates to Closed and it's removed from active/open counts, though it remains visible under a Closed filter.
Closing requisitions in a group
If the requisition is part of a group (created via bulk headcount), you can close it individually or close the whole group at once as a group action. Closing a single member of a group detaches it from the group — it becomes an independent requisition and no longer affects or is affected by the rest of the group's status.
Close vs. Archive vs. Reject
Close stops active work on a requisition without filling it. Closed requisitions can generally still be reopened.
Archive removes a requisition from active views entirely. You can only archive a requisition that's already Closed or Filled — you can't archive directly from an open or in-progress state.
Reject is an approval-stage outcome (an approver declines the requisition), which is different from closing — a rejected requisition can also be closed afterward if it's not going to be resubmitted. See "Approving or rejecting a requisition."
Good to know
You can't close a requisition that's tied to an active offer. The Close option is disabled with a tooltip explaining that you need to delete the associated offer first. This also applies to editing and marking the requisition confidential — all are locked while an offer is attached.
Closing a requisition doesn't close its linked job. The job stays Open until you close it separately. See "Tracking requisition status" for more on this gap.
Closing from a Filled state is one-way. If a requisition was Filled and you close it from there, it can't be reopened afterward — this is intentional. Closing from other states (Open, Approved, Ready to Open, Pending Approval, Not Approved) generally can be reopened. See "Tracking requisition status" for the full reopen rules.
Closing a member of a requisition group detaches it from the group. The rest of the group is unaffected.
FAQ
How do I close a requisition? Open the requisition or use its row/card menu in the Requisitions list, then select Close.
Why is the Close option greyed out on my requisition? It's likely tied to an active offer. Delete the associated offer first, then you'll be able to close it.
Can I close a requisition that's part of a group? Yes — either individually (which detaches it from the group) or as a group action that closes the whole group at once.
Can I close a rejected requisition? Yes — Close is available from the Not Approved (rejected) state as well.
What's the difference between closing and archiving a requisition? Closing stops active work without filling the role; the requisition can generally still be reopened. Archiving removes it from active views entirely, and you can only archive once it's already Closed or Filled.
Can I reopen a requisition after I close it? Usually, yes — unless it was closed from a Filled state, in which case reopening isn't available. See "Tracking requisition status" for details.
