Ask Kula
Last updated: September 16, 2026
Ask Kula is Kula's AI assistant for recruiting. Instead of clicking through jobs, candidates, and reports one by one, you can type what you want in plain language, "Engineers from Series A startups with AI/ML" or "Create a product designer job", and Ask Kula finds it, builds it, or does it.
Who can do this: Super Admin, Admin, Recruiter, anyone whose role can create jobs. Ask Kula uses the same permission as job creation, so if you can create a job today, you already have access.
Where to find it: Ask Kula in the left navigation, or go straight to /ask-kula.
What you can ask it to do
Ask Kula answers in cards, not just text: a candidate search returns candidate cards you can act on, a job search returns job cards, and so on. Here's what's confirmed working today:
You want to... | What Ask Kula does |
|---|---|
Find candidates matching criteria | Returns ranked, selectable candidate cards with a match strength, and shows a Show N more button if there are more results than fit on screen |
Find or list jobs | Returns selectable job cards with a status. Opening a specific job also shows how complete its setup is, as a percentage |
Create a job | Walks you through a confirmation form, "Review the details, then create," before anything is created |
Add candidates to a job | Runs as a tracked background action with a progress card; check Recent activities in notifications for the result |
Reactivate an application | Same tracked background action as above |
Coordinate interview scheduling | Same tracked background action as above |
Draft and send outreach emails | Opens a full email composer (subject, body, CC/BCC, schedule, attachments) inline in the chat; nothing sends until you click Send |
Look up interviews | Returns a read-only list of interview cards (status, time, participants, join link); there's no bulk action on interviews yet |
Look up a scorecard | Returns the scorecard's rating, written feedback, and per-question answers |
Run a salary benchmark or market map | Returns a full report with charts and a downloadable file |
Upload and parse a resume | Parses the file and creates the candidate record, linking straight to it. Upload several at once and Ask Kula creates a contact from each one, listed together |
See what's driving a candidate match | Before showing candidate results for a job, Ask Kula can show an Ideal-candidate profile card summarizing the criteria it matched against, so you can catch a bad criterion instead of puzzling over odd results |
View a candidate's full profile | Opens a detailed profile card in the chat, with Previous and Next to step through several candidates without leaving the conversation |
Compare results in a table | For anything better read as a grid than a stack of cards, for example comparing several candidates side by side, Ask Kula answers with a table instead |
Example prompts
Ask Kula understands the same recruiting concepts you already use in Kula: stages, sources, rejection reasons, departments, offices, requisitions. A few examples to show the range:
Sourcing and search
"Engineers from Series A startups with AI/ML experience"
"Candidates sourced from LinkedIn with 5+ years of Go experience for the Platform Engineer role"
"Who fits the Staff Product Designer job best?"
Pipeline and reporting
"Candidates rejected at offer stage in the last 90 days"
"Show me every job in the Sales department that's been open more than 60 days"
"Compare our three finalists for the VP of Engineering role side by side"
Getting things done
"Create a Senior Data Analyst job in the Growth department, hybrid in Austin"
"Add these five candidates to the Staff Engineer job and move them to Application Review"
"Reactivate Maria Chen's application for the Product Marketing Manager role"
"Coordinate onsite interviews for the candidates in the panel stage next week"
Communication and intel
"Draft a re-engagement email to candidates we rejected at offer stage this quarter"
"What did the panel say about Alex Rivera's system design interview?"
"Run a salary benchmark for a Staff Engineer in Austin"
"Show me a market map of AI/ML engineers at Series A and B startups in the Bay Area"
How it confirms before taking action
Ask Kula doesn't fire off changes silently. Depending on what you ask for, it uses one of these checkpoints:
A confirmation form: for creating a job, it shows you the details it's about to use and waits for you to confirm before creating anything.
An inline draft you send yourself: for email, the composer opens with a draft already written, but nothing goes out until you click Send.
An approval card: for anything more sensitive, for example deleting a contact, Ask Kula pauses the request and shows an approval card. If nobody approves it within the server's approval window, the request is automatically rejected.
A background action you can track: bulk actions like adding candidates to a job, reactivating an application, or coordinating interview scheduling run once you trigger them from a suggested action, and show their progress as a card you can follow through to Recent activities.
Good to know
Ask Kula is rolling out gradually. If you don't see it in your left navigation, it isn't enabled on your account yet.
The candidate match score Ask Kula shows can differ from the score on the same candidate's AI Scoring Attributes elsewhere in Kula. This is a known gap the team is working on; don't treat the two scores as interchangeable until they're reconciled.
When Ask Kula creates a job from a conversation, double-check the interview plan and AI scoring setup it generates. There are known cases where the job intake flow creates an interview plan that doesn't match what was actually asked for.
When Ask Kula drafts outreach emails for a group of candidates, it can quietly include weaker matches you didn't see in the results list. Review the recipient list in the composer before sending.
Dashboards from Ask Kula are currently limited to two report types: salary benchmarks and market maps. It isn't a general-purpose reporting surface yet, even though it may sound like it can pull any report.
Ask Kula only shows jobs and candidates you have access to, but access scoping for this feature is still being hardened. If you notice a result that looks like it shouldn't be visible to you, report it rather than assuming it's expected.
